Top 3 Make-up Trends in Wedding Season

You can always YouTube and Instagram the inspiration for your MOTD this Shaadi season, but it could get confusing to narrow those that are worth trying and go with traditional wear. What’s a better time to take you through the top make-up trends for the season than now?
Since the bride usually has her glam team for all the days, I’ve come up with three looks for those attending weddings, all of which are on-trend and super wearable.

Top 3 Make-up Trends in Wedding Season

Look #1: The No Make-Up Look

Truth be told, achieving this look actually requires basic techniques. How do you think J Lo always looks perfectly bronzed-up and chiselled? Not without makeup, that’s for sure. Here’s a simple go-to look for daytime or an outdoor affair {like a beach wedding}.

  • First of all, set an appointment with your salon for grooming any unwanted facial hair and taming those brows. You will always look well put-together once these basics are in place.
  • Light contouring gives definition to your features and is one of the key techniques in nailing this look. There’s no need to go overboard with layering. If you’re a beginner, try contouring only your cheekbones and nose using a light brown contour shade such as Make Up For Ever’s Sculpting Kit. These areas give the most natural yet flattering finish once you get it right.
  • If there are any sparse areas in the brows, fill them in with a brow powder like Bobbi Brown’s Brow Kit. This frames the face well and gives a natural finish.
  • Sweep a single shade of metallic eyeshadow all over the lid. A gold-copper shade goes well with a lot of ethnic formal wear. Try NYX Hot Singles Eye Shadow in Spontaneous.
  • Top it with a thin line of liquid liner {L’oreal Superliner} to keep it looking natural, and finish with a generous coat of mascara {Revlon’s Magnified Volume + Length Mascara}.
  • Apply a coral pink blush such as Lancome Blush Subtil in Rose Tandresse to get the most natural-looking flush. Match this with a pastel shade of lipstick {like MAC Vegas Volt} for a super fresh look.

Look #2: Cat-Eye & Bright Lip Pairing

Here’s another look that’s easy enough to recreate yet is high-impact. It’s all about keeping the rest of your face looking natural while bringing attention to your eyes and lips. This is a look I would recommend for functions like mehendi or cocktails, where you can keep it fun and modern.

  • Evenly apply a medium coverage liquid foundation as your base and set it with powder. If there are not a lot of blemishes to cover up, a little bit goes a long way. I suggest going for an oil-free formula that has a wide range of shades to choose from to find your exact match, such as L’Oreal Paris True Match Foundation.
  • Add drama to the eyes by dusting it with a silver metallic eyeshadow. Maybelline New York Color Sensational Diamonds Eye Shadow in Sapphire Blue is pretty great for this.
  • Follow this up by creating a cat-eye. Using a liquid liner {L’Oreal Kajal Magique Liquid Liner} and start with a thin line from the inner corner of your eye. Gradually thicken the line as you draw it to the outer corner. To create the wing on the outer corner, angle your brush diagonally and pull it up towards the tip of your eyebrow. Line your lower waterline with kajal to complete the cat-eye.
  • In order to not be washed out by the lipstick’s pop of colour, brighten up your look by intensifying your blush {Inglot Freedom System Blush in #62}.
  • Finish off with a bright lip colour such as Lakme Matte Fuschia Fever.

Look #3: Make It Matte

Matte lipstick is a big trend that I don’t see going anywhere anytime soon. So jump on the bandwagon and go completely matte with this smouldering look that is perfect for an evening wedding. Trade the nude lip for a deep matte plum if you dare to go bold.

  • Start by concealing any blemishes and dark, under-eye circles with a creamy concealer {Kryolan Dermacolor Concealer}. Tip: if you have fair skin, opt for a yellow-toned one, and if you are dusky, opt for an orange tone.
  • Follow this up with a powder foundation such as MAC Studio Fix Powder Foundation. It’s the quickest way to even out your skin tone while giving you a satiny-smooth, mattified base.
  • Fill up any sparse areas in the brows with a pencil {NYX Micro Brow Pencil}. This balances the bold-eye make-up for this look.
  • For a matte smokey eye, begin by lining the eyes with an easy-to spread kajal {like Jovees Kajal}. Build this up to the crease with short strokes and blend the strokes together with a brush, and pat some matte black eyeshadow on top of the kajal {Inglot Freedom System Eye Shadow Matte 391}.
  • Blend out the crease area to give it a soft look. Finish off with the mascara {Benefit They’re Real Mascara}.
  • Go for a blush that doesn’t have shimmer to maintain the overall matte look (Benefit Blush in Georgia}. Complete the look and keep it on-trend by applying a matte nude or brown lipstick {NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Stockholm}.
